Publisher's original brown cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 22 further pages of photographic plates at the rear. Folding map of Borneo. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth and gilt bright and fresh. The contents, with a small ink date stamp to the lower edge of the front pastedown and a small brown spot to the front endpaper are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that is a touch toned and marked to the spine and rear panel. Not price-clipped (63s net to the lower front flap).

The author was a British anthropologist, ethnographer and archaeologist who spent most of his working life in peninsular British Malaya (now Malaysia) and in North Borneo (now Sabah, Malaysia).
