First edition with these illustrations, first printing. Original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, each volume with a different illustration printed in gilt on the upper and lower panels. Housed in a black slipcase. Illustrated throughout in colour by Peter Bailey. A lovely fine set, the bindings square and tight, the contents clean and bright throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. The lightly rubbed slipcase has titles in gilt on the side.

A beautifully produced edition of Philip Pullman's fantasy trilogy, with a new preface by the author. 'Northern Lights' won the 1995 Carnegie Medal, 'The Amber Spyglass' was awarded both The Whitbread Book of the Year and Whitbread Prize for best children's book in 2001. The series has subsequently been adapted for stage and screen.
