DRACULA Stock code: 13172
First edition, first printing. Publisher's original yellow cloth with red titles to the front, rear and spine. The binding is firm with some rubbing and bumping to the extremities. The cloth is a little darkened with a few small marks to the spine, the red lettering remaining clear and legible. The contents are entirely complete and clean throughout. There is a neat bookplate to the front free endpaper and a small stationers blind stamp just above. Single blank terminal leaf without adverts to the rear, as called for. Housed in a purpose made quarter morocco solander case. An excellent example of a notoriously fragile book, rare in this entirely original condition, without repair or restoration of any description. A Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone.
For the avoidance of doubt there is only one "state" of the first edition of Bram Stoker's Dracula. The first edition, as offered here and determined by those copies inscribed by the author on, or before publication day are printed on thicker stock bulking over an inch, with uncut page edges and with a single blank terminal leaf and without any adverts at rear. All other copies, often described as "later issues", printed on thinner stock and including either a single page advert listing 'Shoulder of Shasta' or a larger publisher's catalogue (in some cases advertising and with reviews of Dracula) are simply reprints.
