First edition, first printing. Original light brown cloth with black lettering and blocking to the spine and front panel, in the John Heartfield designed dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm. There is a little rubbing to spine tips and some minor toning to the spine panel and outer edges. The contents are clean without inscriptions of stamps, with some light spotting to the page block edges and to the margins of a few pages within. The dustwrapper shows some minor toning and soiling, the spine a little darkened. There is a half-centimetre patch of loss to the head of the spine and a name written in blue ink to the rear panel.
A generous anthology, featuring prose and poetry by a host of writers including Keith Douglas, Lawrence Durrell, G. S. Fraser, Sidney Keyes, and Olivia Manning.
