First edition, first printing. Original paper wrappers with titles in black to the upper cover. A very good copy, the binding secure with a little splitting to the joints of the covers, chipping to the spine (with minor loss), scattered spotting to the covers and a little wear to the extremities. The contents with tanning to the endpapers and the odd spot to the textblock edge are otherwise in good order and clean throughout.
A thorough and wide-ranging exposition of the case for animal rights by the American author, journalist, poet and conservationist Marian Storm (1892-1975), who, from the 1930s, resided in Mexico, producing numerous works on the country's culture and natural history. In the present, somewhat idiosyncratic, text, Storm covers everything from anti-vivisection to slaughterhouse reform and the banning of whale and seal hunting, considering along the way the role of everyone from the American housewife to the UN in bringing about change. A scarce title.
