First edition, first printing. Inscribed presentation copy to one of the original cast members in the 1934 performance. Publisher's original grey paper covered boards with titles in blue to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, the contents spotted to the endpapers and less so to the text block edge otherwise clean and bright throughout. Page 9 with an ink correction in the hand of Eliot. Complete with the very good rubbed and nicked dustwrapper which has a couple of short closed tears and small chips at the extremities. Not price-clipped. Loosely inserted is T. S. Eliot's Oxford and Cambridge Club calling card which he has inscribed above his printed name "In grateful appreciation".




Inscribed by the author in black ink on the front free endpaper "to Miss Phyllis Woodliffe ("Mrs Bert") / with the author's / gratitude + appreciation / T. S. Eliot / [underlined]". An excellent association copy of the author's second poetic drama, written as part of the fund raising campaign assisting the Forty-Five Churches Fund to build new churches in the London suburbs. 1000 copies printed.
