First edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author, with inserted note. Original illustrated card wraps. A near fine copy, sharp and clean. The spine is slightly cocked, an idiosyncrasy of production rather than a symptom of heavy reading. A nice copy.
Inscribed in blue ink to the dedication page (the printed dedication has been crossed out) "For Pat / with love / & fond / memories / from / Annie / x". Tipped in also is a note written in the same ink thanking Pat Borthwick for a letter and one of her books and with news of plans for teaching and a new collection. "The Best Man That Ever Was" was Freud's first full-length collection. Provenance: from the library of the multi-award winning poet Pat Borthwick.
