London: Herbert Jenkins. 1962

First edition. Variant [unrecorded?] issue. Original blue buckram with gilt titles to spine in dustwrapper. A beautiful fine copy, the binding square and tight, the contents clean throughout and without previous inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the very lightly rubbed original price-clipped dustwrapper. A superb example.

This issue not recorded in McIlvaine. The blue buckram is noted as the binding for the re-issue but that being the case should have the publisher's address on the title page as Clement's Inn. This copy has the Duke of York Street address as required for the first edition. The dustwrapper again differs from the both the first issue and the re-issue in that there are 41 titles to the rear panel, but these are centralised rather than aligned left. [McIlvaine A85b].
