Advance proof copy of the first edition, first printing. Publisher's cream card covers, faintly ink stamped with the title to the upper wrapper, in the Arthur Hawkins illustrated dustwrapper. An excellent better than very good copy, the binding firm and square, the contents entirely complete and without loose or torn pages. Publisher's ink stamp "Pub'n Date Aug 20 1931" to the front blank and a little spotting to the top edge of the text block. Complete with the pictorial dustwrapper which is attached at the spine, as issued. With only some light creasing and darkening at the extremities and a few tiny nicks at the spine tips the notoriously fragile dustwrapper remains in excellent original condition. The price is clipped from the front corner of the upper wrapper (presumably by the publisher before the advance copy was sent out). Housed in a blue cloth collectors case. A remarkable survival, rare in this format.
