First edition, first printing with Arthur Rackham illustrations. Publisher's original red cloth with elaborate gilt decoration and titles to the upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. Top edge brown. Illustrated with 12 full page colour plates, 2 full page black and white illustrations and 7 chapter headings and tail-piecesby Arthur Rackham. A lovely near fine copy, the binding clean and square, the gilt remaining exceptionally bright. The contents, with some offsetting to the illustrated endpapers and mild toning to the closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owner's marks. Complete with the very good rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that is a little chipped at the tips of the darkened spine not affecting the text. The front panel with the publisher's "cancelled" stamp over the price to the front panel, the original 7/6 net price remains to the spine. A very attractive example, scarce in the original dustwrapper.
