First edition, first printing. Original green cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in dustwrapper. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. In the dustwrapper, a touch faded to spine and outer margins. Not price-clipped (£5.95 to the front flap). A nice copy.
The first of Prince's Collected volumes includes the contents of 'The Doors of Stone' (1963), 'Memoirs of Oxford' (1970), 'Drypoints of the Hassidim' (1975) and 'Afterword on Rupert Brooke' (1977). 'The Doors of Stone' includes all the poems the poet wished to preserve from his first two volumes ('Poems' [1938] and 'Soldiers Bathing' [1954]). "It would be easy to invent a title for F. T. Prince like 'best poet working in England today' —but is this necessary? Let's leave it at this: Prince is one of the best twentieth-century poets." (John Ashbery, PN Review, 2002).
