First edition. Inscribed presentation copy. Publisher's original blue cloth over bevelled boards, the titles in gilt to the upper cover and spine. A near very good copy, the binding square and firm with some wear and chipping at the top of the spine. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. All 29 illustrations (including the frontispiece) are present as called for. A solid example in entirely original condition. The trade edition is scarce in inscribed state.




Inscribed by the author to his literary agent in black ink on the half title "To A. P. Watt / from / H. Rider Haggard / 1889".[Whatmore F10].
