Wren, Percival Christopher

London: John Murray. 1927

First edition, first printing. Primary binding of red cloth with gilt titles to the spine and blind stamped titles to the upper board. A very good copy indeed, the binding square and firm with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The cloth is a little darkened and the gilt to the spine dulled. The contents are entirely complete, without loose or torn pages and without inscriptions or stamps. There is a little spotting to the endpapers and half title otherwise clean and bright throughout. An excellent example.

Whilst the signed "edition de luxe", published in 1927 is very common in commerce the true first edition of this adventure novel is of considerable rarity. The book exists in two bindings, the primary binding of red cloth (as deposited with the British Library and Bodleian library) was produced for sale in the UK, copies bound in blue cloth were produced for the American market. Both issues are rare.
