With the booklet is a single page typed letter with autograph annotations, written by Roald's widow Liccy on Gipsy House, Great Missenden letterhead to Rayner Unwin. Dated January 1991 she thanks him for the letter and beautiful flowers and encloses this copy of Peter Mayer's tribute to Roald. "It says so many things about this huge and wonderful man whose kindness and help to others seemed boundless". She goes on to talk about Roald's unique volume of literature despite his fair share of life's tragedies and illnesses - "Only a Big Friendly Giant with great courage could have achieved this". "One day he said to me "Liccy, If I were to knock on the door of any house in the world and a child were to answer, the odds are even that I would be offered a cup of tea. Not many men can say that and I am proud of it". There follows a declaration of love and pride for Roald, signed "with love Liccy" in black ink and with an autograph P.P.S. The letter is in very good condition, with a single horizontal fold. The booklet and letter retain the original mailing envelope postmarked 3 Jan 1991.
