Gorey, Edward; [Marc Bolan]

First edition, first printing. From the collection of T-Rex frontman Marc Bolan and his wife June. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little rubbing and bumping at the extremities. The contents are entirely complete, with a hint of toning to the prelims and alas, without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the rubbed and nicked dustwrapper which is a little toned and creased at the extremities. Correctly priced $3.00 to the upper front flap. Loosely inserted in a two page autograph letter from Chicago based journalist Beth Lester.

The letter dated 21st March [1972?] reads "Dear Marc and June - Browsing through a bookstore - I found this, and thought of you immediately. Gorey is one of my more favourite pseudo-children's writers, and hard to find alas, so here. / Raced through the Rolling Stone interview (things happen so fast, so little time to read, and I recognised pieces of you, but some didn't sound like the people I met at all. Perhaps my fault; I didn't ?? the magic. Perhaps we'll get to talk about that a little. / I feel vaguely about tarot: something - mysthical? certainly emotional. Psychology-religion-theater-myth. / Reading Sacheverell Sitwell on poltergeists, for reasons which escape me quite. Lindisfarne - nice guys - passed through and recommended William Morris. Quite cleverly I responded "Who"? I have since discovered - the painter who writes [underlined], rather ??? - and enjoy, although most of his stuff unavailable here. Another order off to Blackwells, for the rest of Spike Milligan, etc. / Anyhow. My interview - for the "Mass Daily" - is holding on photos. Will send whenever - Hate 400 words - not the size, but what one can't say. / When is your book coming out? Where can I get it? / Looks like i'll get to England sometime this summer, instead of April as planned. / My friend the eccentric artist - cum bassist (Curry is tremendous [underlined]) Thom Mitz, writes that Daddy Long Legs is doing quite well, thank you, and will be on the road - April: Germany, May: England - Marc, are [underlined] they doing all right? Do you know how Thom is fitting in? Musically? Mentally? / I hear the English scene is both far more benign and far more bedlam than ever I imagined. The group is someplace in Sussex ("Hastings: popular with visitors since 1066") - Burwash, Etchingham, The Cottage St. Joseph, Spring Lane. I presume that positions it, at least temporally. / I hope all is well with the both of you. Things shift about rather madly here - both a blessing and a curse - presumably it will level out slightly soon. Too much of business, too less Rock and Roll. / Did you meet Dylan? I find Electric Warrior [underlined] more appealing than first meets the ear, which proves... something I suppose. / June: thanks for lists; Through grapevine Vic says he'll be in touch. / Hope to see you all soon - May the wind at your back and all - Beth Lester".
