Illustrated throughout with colour plates showings drawings and paintings of Goethe and Italy. A fine copy, the binding square and tight, the contents clean and bright throughout. Housed in the fine original black card slipcase.

Goethe's recollections of his trip to Italy from 1786 to 1788 was originally published as Italienische Reise in 1816 and 1817. This newly illustrated English translation by W. H. Auden and Elizabeth Mayer was first published by Collins in 1962.
