First edition, first printing. Publisher's original navy blue cloth with titles in gilt to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with 59 sepia toned photographic plates, three diagrams and four maps (three of which are folding). Attractive calligraphic manuscript presentation page dated 17th November 1934 tipped-in to the front free endpaper presenting the book to C. L. Lander Esq. D.S.O. from the Plymouth Labour Party "on his departure from Plymouth [and] in appreciation of his services to the party and to the city council". A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm with a few light marks to the boards. The contents with some light scattered foxing to the edges of the textblock are otherwise clean and bright throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. The folding maps remain in excellent condition, clean and crisp and free from damage. Complete with the price-clipped dustwrapper which is a little marked and worn, has a large horizontal tear to the head of the front panel (repaired with tape) and with some further tape repairs verso.

An extensive and well-illustrated account of the 1933 British Mount Everest expedition by its leader Hugh Ruttledge (1884-1961).
