First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Original olive-green cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the dustwrapper illustrated with a painting by Paul Trouillebert (1829-1900). Publisher's decorative endpapers. A very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. Spine tips are a touch rubbed, the lower outer corners minimally bumped. Complete with the dustwrapper which remains without fading or loss, minimally rubbed to outer corners, with a touch of pushing to the upper spine tip. Not price-clipped (£11.95 net to the front flap). A lovely copy.

Signed by the author in black ink to the title page. The author's second novel, and the first in a French Trilogy that continues with 'Birdsong' and 'Charlotte Gray'.
