THE CHRONICLES OF RODRIGUEZ

First edition, first printing. Signed by the author and the artist. Inscribed presentation copy. Limited edition. Publisher's original quarter vellum, ruled in gilt, over brown cloth boards, with titles in gilt on a brown leather label to the spine, in dustwrapper. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Brown ribbon page marker, loosely laid in. Frontispiece illustration by Sidney H. Sime. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the vellum with just a little dustiness at the edges is otherwise bright and fresh. The contents, ever so lightly spotted to the text block edge, are clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has a few light marks and minor erosion at the tips of the flap folds. An excellent example.

Issued in a limited edition of 500 copies, this example is numbered 387 and signed by Lord Dunsany in black ink at the conclusion of the introduction, and by Sidney H. Sime in blue ink on the frontispiece. Further inscribed by the author in black ink on the front endpaper "To Bice / from / Dunsany / Xmas 1924". The recipient is Beatrice Anne Savile, later Lady Beatrice Anne Scrope, (Daughter of John Henry Savile, 6th Earl of Mexborough and Margaret Eva, Countess of Mexborough). Dunsany's first novel, a fantasy set in the mythical "golden age" of Spain.
