Second impression of the first edition. Signed by the author John Hunt and also Wilfrid Noyce and Michael Westmacott. Publisher's original blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the W. Heaton Cooper illustrated dustwrapper. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, seven colour plates, 48 black & white plates and numerous text vignettes. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth faded and spotted to the spine with some rubbing to the extremities, the gilt oxidised. The contents, with foxing to the prelims and occasionally to the margins are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the supplied, nicked and creased dustwrapper that has several short closed tears at the head of the spine and flap folds and some dustiness to the panels. Not price-clipped (25/- net to the lower front flap).

Signed by mountaineers and members of the expedition John Hunt, Wilfrid Noyce and Michael Westmacott in blue ink on the title page. An account of the ninth British expedition to Everest, on which Edmund Hillary and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest. The bulk of the book is written by the expedition leader Brigadier Sir John Hunt. Wilfrid Noyce contributed the 'Diary of the Expedition', Appendix I. The second impression was published in December 1953 following the first impression in November of the same year.
