First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Peter Dyer designed dustwrapper. Illustrated endpapers, 21 colour plates, 103 black and white illustrations and five black and white maps. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh, with just a hint of rubbing at the extremities. The contents, with light toning to the closed text block, are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper, that remains without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£25.00 to the lower front flap).
