SOUVENIR PROGRAMME GIVEN BY THE THEATRICAL & MUSICAL PROFESSIONS AS A TRIBUTE TO MISS ELLEN TERRY ON THE OCCASION OF HER JUBLIEE. Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Tuesday afternoon, June 12th 1906.

First edition. Signed and inscribed by Ellen Terry's son, Edward Gordon Craig. Publisher's original quarter cloth over pictorial paper-covered boards with design by William Nicholson. Illustrated title page and chapter headings designed by Walter Crane. Text printed in red and black. Illustrated with eight plates in colour and black and white by Edwin Abbey, William Nicholson, William Orpen, Byam Shaw, John Singer Sargent, James Pryde, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, and Bernard Partridge. Additional supplementary page tipped-in at the appropriate place within the text. Original cabinet card photograph of Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth loosely laid in. A very good copy, the binding with cracking to the front hinge, a little marking to the boards and minor chipping to the spine ends and corners. The contents with a few occasional spots of light foxing to the preliminary pages are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout.

Signed and inscribed by Edward Gordon Craig in black ink to the front free endpaper "To dear Dorothea Wilks[?] / in memory of her visit / to the Ellen Terry / memorial / from / Gordon Craig / 4.5.46". A lavishly-produced commemorative programme for the golden jubilee of the leading late nineteenth/early twentieth-century actress Ellen Terry, illustrated by numerous prominent artists of the day. The jubilee took the form of a star-studded gala performance at the Drury Lane Theatre, for Terry's benefit, as part of which Enrico Caruso sang, W. S. Gilbert directed a performance of Trial by Jury, and Eleonora Duse, Mrs. Patrick Campbell, Lillie Langtry, Herbert Beerbohm Tree, Nellie Melba, and more than twenty members of Terry's family performed an act of Much Ado about Nothing alongside Terry herself, as well as numerous other performances. A nice association copy, inscribed by Terry's son, the English modernist theatre practitioner, director, stage designer and theatre theorist, Edward Gordon Craig (1872-1966).
