First UK edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original dark blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Pete Rozycki designed dustwrapper. Illustrated with tipped-in black and white photographic plates throughout the text. A very good or better copy, the binding firm, the spine a little rolled. The is cloth bright and fresh, with some light rubbing to the spine tips and extremities. The contents, with a couple of finger marks to the fore-edge of the closed text block, are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper, which has just a touch of fading to the spine, a short closed tear to the top edge of the rear panel, and a small nick to the head of the front flap fold. Not price-clipped.
Inscribed by the author in black ink on the title page "For Ed / Carolyn Cassady / 14 June 1990". There is also a postcard, signed by Carolyn Cassady, loosely laid in. The second autobiographical book by American writer Carolyn Cassady (ne้ Robinson, 1923-2013), exploring her personal experiences and romantic relationships with prominent Beat writers and poets in the late 1940s-50s, with a particular focus on her marriage to Neal Cassady as his second wife. Cassady, a fellow writer and key member of the Beat Generation, is best known today for his friendships with Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, and his iconic depiction in Kerouac's 1957 novel 'On the Road' as hero Dean Moriarty. Carolyn is likewise a character in Kerouac's novel, and appears as 'Camille'.
