Gouache painting on paper consisting of many tiny, layered brushstrokes showing Noah and his wife rescuing an elephant, a penguin, a chicken and a monkey from the flood in their ark. Window mounted and framed. In fine condition, the painting clean and crisp. Signed and dated to the lower left. In fine condition. The painting measures 20.5 x 28.5cm and the frame 32.5 x 42cm.
A beautiful illustration by Rosemary Fawcett that shows a great deal of unique character and attention to detail, as seen in the glowing eyes in a porthole and the variety of different, distinct animal tracks on the path the suggest a whole menagerie of animals has just paraded onto the island. Fawcett is known for illustrating the first edition of Roald Dahl's 1983 'Dirty Beasts' poetry collection, and despite there being some evidence of her continued creative work after the Dahl publication, including this example, there are unfortunately no records of any other known published illustrations by her.
