Signed and inscribed by Viscount Rothermere on the front free endpaper "J.E. Bolden[?] / Xmas 1939 / with / Viscount Rothermere's / compliments". The influential newspaper proprietor Viscount Rothermere's account of his campaign for British rearmament prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. Despite his opposition to the war, his praise of Hitler, and his promotion of fascism in Britain, Rothermere was one of the few voices calling for increased defence spending during the 1930s, when both Nazi Germany and Bolshevik Russia were rapidly growing their military strength, as Churchill acknowledges in his introductory letter. An uncommon title signed.
