First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Near contemporary green cloth with titles in gilt to the spine. Original illustrated wrappers bound in at the front and rear. Illustrated throughout with numerous black and white photographs and several maps. Embossed blind-stamp for the "Societa Italiana Degli Autori e Editori" to the title page. A near fine copy, the binding square and tight. The contents with a small tear and some minor chipping to the edges of the front wrapper, a previous owner's ink inscription to the front free endpaper and a little toning to the page edges are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout.

Signed by Nino Bussoli in black in on the half title page "29/3.43 / R. Luigi / regalo dell'autore". A wide-ranging and well-illustrated history of polar exploration from 1773 to 1938 by the Italian author Nino Bussoli, published during the midst of the Second World War. An uncommon title signed.
