DANNY THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD

First edition, first printing. Publisher's original brown cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Jill Bennett illustrated dustwrapper. Top edge brown. Illustrated with a photograph of the author as a baby, and line drawings throughout by Jill Bennett. An excellent very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh, with just a touch of rubbing to the spine tips. The contents, with a little toning and lightly spotting to the closed text block, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed dustwrapper, which has a hint of spotting to the underside of the rear panel, and is otherwise without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£2.25 net to the lower front flap).

A classic children's story. The publication of Danny the Champion of the World marked the first time that both the UK and US printings were issued simultaneously in first edition with drawings by the same illustrator. It is also notable for containing the first mention, and illustration of The BFG. The novel formed the basis for the 1989 made-for-TV movie of the same name, directed by Gavin Millar and starring Jeremy Irons and his son Samuel as William and Danny Smith, with Robbie Coltrane as the villainous Victor Hazell.
