Inscribed by Frederick Attenborough in black ink on the front free endpaper "Signed by the author, / Frederick Attenborough [underlined] / July. 1926 [underlined]". Frederick Attenborough, the father of the naturalist and broadcaster David Attenborough and the actor Richard Attenborough, was a scholar of medieval languages and the principal of University College, Leicester.
