Inscribed by Catherynne M. Valente in black ink on the title page 'For Lavie / my hero / Catherynne M. Valente'. Nominated for the 2018 Locus Award for 'Best Collection'. Motivated by her frustration at Gwen Stacy's portrayal and demise in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' film (2014), Valente here addresses the popular literary trope known as "Women in Refrigerators" (or "fridging", as it is informally known), which sees female characters experiencing severe and undue trauma, such as assault, torture and death, as a plot device to advance the development and story of the male characters. Provenance: From the library of Lavie Tidhar, multi-award winning author of such works as 'Osama' (2011) and 'Central Station' (2016).
