THE LORD OF THE RINGS. Comprising The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

Fifteenth, tenth and eleventh impression of the 1954 and 1955 first editions. Three volumes. Publisher's original red cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrappers. Folding map to the rear of each volume. A very good set, the bindings square and firm, the cloth and gilt bright. All are lightly rubbed at the spine tips and corners. There is spotting to the closed text-block edges that sometimes reaches into the page margins. 'The Two Towers' has two small patches of discolouration from pieces of tape (seemingly from a previous dustwrapper protector) to both the front pastedown and the rear free endpaper. The contents are otherwise clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. The red top-stains are faded. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrappers that have some toning to the spines and flap folds and some very minor chipping and short closed tears to the spine tips and edges. The underside of 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and 'The Two Towers' have six small patches of discolouration from tape (that is no longer present), not visible on the printed side. All three dustwrappers have the original publisher's printed price present to the lower front flap (25s and 21s), as called for.

An early set of J. R. R. Tolkien's masterpiece of fantasy fiction.
