Comprising 'The Man Who Painted the Dragon Griaule', 'The Scalehunter's Beautiful Daughter', 'The Father of Stone', 'Liar's House', 'The Taborin Scale', and 'The Skull'. For 'The Skull', Shepard received a nomination for the 2013 World Fantasy Award, the whole collection was nominated for the 2013 Locus Award. The primary short story included here, 'The Man Who Painted the Dragon Griaule' (1984), from which the collection derives its name, is one of the author's most recognisable and most acclaimed works, having been nominated for a World Fantasy Award, British Fantasy Award, and British Science Fiction Association Award in 1985.
