A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, lightly toned to the upper edge, and with light rubbing to the spine tips and extremities. Mild spotting to the top edge of the text block. The contents are clean throughout, and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps.
Issued in an edition of 111 copies from which this example is numbered 69, and signed by the author Jack Vance and illustrator David Ireland in black ink on the limitation page. The first book in Vance's 'Planet of Adventure' series, relating the adventures of Adam Reith, sole survivor of an Earth ship investigating a signal from the distant planet Tschai. Although the novels are thematically linked, each is a self-contained story. When the series was included in the 44 volume Integral Edition of Vance's works (1999-2006), the editors restored the Vance's preferred title for this book ('The Chasch').
