Reissue, the first edition with Charles Foss artwork. Original yellow cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Chris Foss illustrated dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding firm, the spine with a slight lean, the bottom corner of the lower board with a tiny bump. The contents are clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper that has a price label to the rear panel, and is without fading, loss, or tears.

An early combination of the detective novel with the science fiction genre. A detective from a severely overpopulated, robot-hating Earth must, with the help of a robot (the first appearance of recurring character R. Daneel Olivaw), investigate the murder of an ambassador from a sparsely populated, outer-space colony that that relies heavily on robot labour. The first published novel in Asimov's 'Robots' series, followed by 'The Naked Sun'. It was nominated for a retroactive Hugo Award in 2004.
