The publisher's 'Golden Anniversary Anthology' edition and the revised edition of 'Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos' by H. P. Lovecraft '& divers hands'. Considered the first Cthulhu Mythos anthology, 'Tales of' was originally published by Arkham House in 1969 and was edited by August Derleth, who contributed two stories here. This later edition replaces short stories by original contributors and Lovecraft correspondents J. Vernon Shea and James Wade, and replaces Brian Lumley's original contributions, with 'The Terror from the Depths' by Fritz Leiber, 'Rising with Surtsey' by Brian Lumley, 'My Boat' by Joanna Russ, 'Sticks' by Karl Edward Wagner, 'The Freshman' by Philip José Farmer, 'Jerusalem's Lot' by Stephen King, and 'Discovery of the Ghooric Zone' by Richard A. Lupoff. The term "Cthulhu Mythos" was invented by correspondent and friend of Lovecraft, August Derleth, and describes the fictional universe depicted in Lovecraftian short stories.
