Illustrated in black and white throughout. Printed on Caxton Wove paper. Housed in the original black card slipcase. A very near fine copy of this beautifully presented edition, the binding square and tight with just a small crease at the head of the spine. The contents are spotlessly clean and bright throughout. Scarce in the first edition.

First published in the UK without illustrations by Walter Scott Ltd in 1888 under the title Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry. This newly illustrated edition follows the text of the first edition, with minor emendations. Paul Muldoon's nine page foreword is printed here for the first time.
