Third printing of the 2008 first edition with these illustrations. Publisher's original black cloth with decoration, illustration and titles in red and silver, in the black card slipcase. With a colour frontispiece and eight further full page illustrations in black and white by Abigail Rorer. Printed on Cordier Wove paper. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout, and without inscriptions or stamps. Housed in the fine, structurally sound slipcase. A lovely example.
The first edition was printed without illustrations by Constable and Company in 1897. This newly illustrated edition follows the text of the first edition, with minor emendations. A classic of gothic fiction.
