First trade hardcover edition, first printing. Complete in six volumes. Publisher's original black cloth with silver titles to the spine, in the striking author illustrated dustwrappers. A very near fine set, the bindings square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh, with just a touch of rubbing to the spine tips. The contents, with just a little toning to the top edge of the closed text block of volumes V and VI, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed dustwrappers, which have the occasional light crease to the spine tips, with just a tiny closed tear to the head of the rear flap fold of volume V, and are otherwise without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£8.95 net to the lower front flap of every volume).
A complete set of Clive Barker's short horror story anthologies, first published in paperback by Sphere between 1984 and 1985. Comprising a total of 30 short works across six volumes, the collection garnered much critical praise upon publication and has since caught the attention of Hollywood several times, most notably inspiring the 'Candyman' film series (from the novelette 'The Forbidden' in volume V). Barker went on to win consecutive British Fantasy Awards for his short stories 'In the Hills, the Cities' (volume I) and 'The Forbidden' in 1985 and 1986, also winning the 1985 World Fantasy Award for the Sphere omnibus softcover edition of the first three volumes.
