First edition with these illustrations. One of 50 copies on Japanese Vellum. Publisher's original card covers printed in black and red, in the plain original glassine and pink paper covered chemise and slipcase. Illustrated with six original colour lithographs by Marie Laurencin. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the covers with a few small spots, are otherwise bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's marks. The publisher's paper limitation number slip is loosely laid in. The original glassine is toned and very lightly chipped at the spine tips and corners, the slipcase worn to the extremities but firm and structually sound. An exceptional example.
One of fifty copies of the "European Edition" printed on Japan vellum, this being number 2. From a total edition of 371 (300 copies on Rives Paper, 50 on Japan vellum, 20 on Hollande Van Gelder each of these 20 copies containing a supplementary suite of the six illustrations in sanguine, and one copy on Vieux Japon containing a suite in sanguine to be sold with the six lithographs coloured and signed by Marie Laurencin). This was the first illustrated book of the French artist and printmaker Marie Laurencin (1883-1956), an important figure in the Parisian avant-garde as a member of the Cubists associated with the Section d'Or.
