First Arthur Rackham illustrated edition. Publisher's original purple cloth with titles and illustrations in gilt to the upper board and spine. Top edge purple. Illustrated endpapers, with a colour frontispiece, 11 further full page colour plates with captioned tissue guards and black and white illustrations throughout by Arthur Rackham. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the spine faded, gilt rubbed and tips bumped, the cloth a little marked and lightly rubbed around the extremities. The contents, with a previous owners name to the half title and toning to the text block, are foxed to the first and last few pages and sporadically throughout. All the plates are present and in clean condition with their tissue guards.

The frontispiece illustration is in the second state being integral rather than mounted on coloured card, the reverse of the title page is dated 1915 as called for. (Riall p.124-125).
