First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's illustrated boards, with titles in blue and red to the upper board and also in white to the spine. With the circular Carnegie Medal label to the upper board. A lovely near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with just a touch of fading to the red lettering on the spine, and a hint of rubbing to the extremities. The contents, with just a little toning to the top edge of the closed text block, are clean throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps.
