Limited edition. Woodcut print from the original 1931 block measuring 16 x 13cm on Basingwerk parchment paper measuring 24 x 20.5cm. Loosely laid into blue paper wrappers with titles and illustration in green to the front cover. Initialled in the block by Eric Ravilious. Printed by Simon Lawrence at the Fleece Press. A fine copy.
Issued in an edition of 120 copies (of which 110 were for sale). Originally used on the cover of the Golden Cockerel Press Autumn List in 1931, the illustration was based on Ravilious' wife Tirzah. 'He outlined a design based on a merry-go-round cockerel, suggesting a 'robust animal with a naughty twinkle in its eye and a comb suggesting a drunken coronet'. Its rider should be a 'luscious lady'. (publishers description)
