THE NORTH ATLANTIC TURBINE

First edition, first printing. Original grey cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the illustrated dustwrapper. Triple frontispiece from a screen print portrait of the poet by Ron Kitaj. A very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. A touch of pushing to the lower spine tip. In the near fine dustwrapper, a little rubbed to tips. Not price-clipped (25/- or $4.50 to the front flap).

'The North Atlantic Turbine' was Dorn's third book with Fulcrum Press and the first to be written for the most part during his residence in England, where he was teaching at the University of Essex. In the extended note printed across both jacket flaps, Dorn writes of the volume, "I have tried to locate another hemisphere. And I want this collection to be the last necessity to work out such locations. I think I can now see my way clear to a spiritual address". As such, the volume marks something of a transition between the poet's early writing and the period inaugurated by the publication of the first part of Dorn's great long poem, 'Gunslinger', the following year. 'The North Atlantic Turbine' is jointly dedicated to three English poets, J. H. Prynne, Donald Davie, and Tom Raworth.
