First edition with these illustrations. Publisher's original pictorial boards, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with striking black and white drawings by Leonard Everett Fisher throughout. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little rubbing and bumping at the spine tips, the boards bright and fresh. The contents, with a gift inscription in ink on the front free endpaper, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper that is a little chipped at the head of the spine. Not price-clipped ($2.65 to the upper front flap). Scarce.

Leonard Everett Fisher (1924 - 2024) was born in New York City and received his Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees at Yale Art School. An extremely successful and sought after illustrator of children's books, he was awarded the Weir Prize, the Winchester Fellowship, and the Pulitzer Art Prize.
