First edition, first printing. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Coloured map front endpapers. Undated, as issued, with 'sorsque' instead of 'forsque' on the front panel of the dustwrapper and the subsequent explanation of this on the front flap marking it as a first edition. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth somewhat rubbed and faded. The contents, with a previous owner's name on the front pastedown and some mild toning are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper that has a number of short closed tears and is chipped with a little loss at the spine tips and front flap fold. Not price clipped (12s. 6d. net to the front flap).
The first Roger Brook title, and Wheatley's first historical novel.
