First edition, first printing. Publisher's original deep purple cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding firm with the spine slightly rolled, the cloth faintly marked but fresh, the spine a touch faded and the gilt oxidised (as usual). The contents, with spotting to the prelims and closed text block edge are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the much better than very good lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has a couple of short closed tears and a couple of faint cup rings to the rear panel but is otherwise bright and without loss. An attractive example.
The true first editon in book form of this collection of 12 short stories, most notable for the first appearance of "The Witness for the Prosecution" which was later adapted for the stage, film and television. (Hubin; Wagstaff & Poole).
