Not price-clipped (£10.00 to the lower front flap). Scarce.

Yoko Ogawa's first book-length work to be translated into English. A collection of three psychological horror novellas including 'The Diving Pool', 'Pregnancy Diary' and 'Dormitory'. In what has since been described as an 'inexcusably belated' British debut (Joanna Briscoe for The Guardian, 2008), Ogawa's translated short stories have particularly garnered critical praise and stirred academic discussion for their recurring theme of food subverting the readers' expectations towards (and Japanese stereotypes of) femininity and domesticity. The collection was awarded the Shirley Jackson Award for 'Best Collection' in 2008. The novella 'Pregnancy Diary' (1990) won the Akutagawa Prize, Japan's most prestigious literary award in 1990.
