Reissue. Uniquely bound in quarter black morocco and wooden boards, with five raised bands and titles in gilt to the spine. Tan leather border decorated in blind, with black morocco ties and polished stone clasps. Marbled endpapers. Illustrated with 96 colour plates, and with black and white illustrations throughout. Housed in a felt-lined, ribbon pull, wooden slipcase. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, bright and fresh. Slightly toned to the closed text block edge and with a couple of light marks to the fore-edge. The contents, with small indentations to the page surface to the front and rear, a couple of light brown marks to the half-title and rear flyleaf, and light spotting to the title page, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the near fine, structurally sound slipcase, that is a little bowed to the opening. An attractive craft binding.
A selection of tales from Chaucer's magnum opus, accompanied by two introductory essays and an abundance of illustrations, in a unique craft binding.
