First edition thus, first printing. Signed by the illustrator. Illustrated grey paper over brown cloth, with gilt titles to the spine. Illustrated throughout with linocuts in black, red, yellow and green by J. Martin Pitts. Housed in the original cloth and card clipcase. A near fine copy, the binding square and tight, the spine slightly faded. The contents, with a neat gift inscription to a flyleaf, are otherwise clean and bright throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed original slipcase that is a touch faded at the open edge.
Issued in a limited edition of 100, this example is numbered 26 and is signed by J. Martin Pitts in black ink on the colophon. A beautifully produced and illustrated edition of the poem 'The Ballad of Judas Iscariot' by the Scottish writer Robert Buchanan (1841-1901), first published in 'The Saint Paul's Magazine' in February 1872.
