STUDIES IN AESCHYLUS

Reissue. Hardcover. Publisher's original light grey boards, with red titles to the upper board and spine. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with some bumping to the spine tips, and light rubbing to the extremities. The contents, with a short closed tear to the extreme bottom edge of pages 137-142 and some minor creasing to the extremities of various pages, are otherwise clean throughout, and without inscriptions or stamps.

The first volume in B. G. Teubner/de Gruyter's 'Beiträge zur Altertunskunde' series, comprising over 430 volumes (and counting!) and consisting of monographs, collective volumes, editions, translations, and commentaries on various topics from the fields of Greek and Latin Philology, Ancient History, Archaeology, Ancient Philosophy, and Classical Reception Studies. Author, critic, and classical scholar Martin Litchfield West (1937-2015) is best known for his acclaimed commentary on Hesiod's Theogony, which won the esteemed Conington Prize in 1965. He contributed several Teubner editions, including Homer's 'Iliad' and 'Odyssey' (the latter unfinished at the time of his death). This re-issue comprises the sheets of the 1990 first edition, bound by parent company Walter de Gruyter GmbH in 2006 following their acquisition of B. G. Teubner (then part of Munich-based publishing house K. G. Saur).
