First edition, first printing. Publisher's original black cloth with orange titles to the spine, lacking the rare dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding firm with a little bumping at the extremities, the spine a touch rolled, the cloth and titles are bright and fresh. The contents, with a small previous owner's name and some offsetting to the front endpaper, and toning to the text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout. An attractive example.

The author's fifth novel to feature Lord Peter Wimsey, and the first in which Harriet Vane appears. (Hubin)
